About Music Regulation
To judge someone’s taste in music or
lyrics would be similar to judging the way another breaths or
speaks. One man, with a beautiful voice, may choose to take a vow
of silence for life, while another may choose to cuss like a
sailor. Each scenario may be deemed tragic...but what natural right
is bestowed to any man to censure the choice of either, or to switch the
choices of each, or further, to censor them and those who choose to
listen, or not.
No words written or sung by any
musician or vocalist could ever be as VILE as any words concocted by
politicians and writ into law
to take ones freedom of speech away,
thereby hindering ones natural
rights.
It could pain me to see someone that
was unable to speak due to an ailment, or worse, by choice (with
respect to their cause). It would be irritating, for me, to hear
someone cursing all the time. But, in either case, I can look down
and see that I do have feet. I am able to walk away and leave
either man with "their choice”, which they made for “their lives”.
I too can leave those who "choose" to be in their company.
Et al., I leave them with the personal ramifications of their
choices as well.
Regarding particular song lyrics and
songs - first, start by telling me the lyrics and instrumentation you hear as you create
original music in your mind or on paper? If you don't, then leave it to those
that do. The market place will determine the value of the breath and
scope of each man’s/woman’s work. If their work is unworthy of
usage by others they can always serve as an example of what falls
short, or fails altogether. My dear Grandfather used to say: "man
always has a purpose; he can always serve as a bad example". But
who is the bad example when it comes to regulation of speech or
verse; I would say any Law makers or the Judge that seeks to
infringe upon any man or woman's inalienable rights. It wasn't the
legislators or jurist who
gave us tongues, it wasn't they who gave us hands with which to
write. Depending on your view, it was either He that made the
Universe or the Universe itself that gave us these gifts and no man
or body of men have an inkling of a right to take their use away
from any of us.
This hold true in all cases of Free
Speech. Removing the right of free speech is a tell-tale sign
of a Government gone bad - where the majority body is Corrupt. It is a
protective mechanism for the purposes of keeping their corruption
secret for as long as possible and/or to keep them in power for as
long as possible. A righteous political body
has no need to curtail critical scrutiny or free speech, it should
welcome dialogue, not fear it.
Regulation of songwriters would be an
attempt to regulate word-combinations and adrenal outflows, as
people express them, and the pleasure they feel in releasing the
endorphins felt in the songs original
creation...creation too is an inevitable extension of Nature and
God. Witness a bee that makes a Honey comb, a Beaver making a dam
or an ant making the mound. Yet, Politicians and Judges should not
taint another's creative expression to fulfill their own thirst for
endorphins, serotonin, and
Power. One act of creation
within its creative expression
seems more righteous, while
the other is definitely oppressive.
Undoubtedly the same thrill in
creation is felt by legislators passing legislation or by judges
writing a ruling...benignly, if it benefits their constituents, it is
work rewarded. However, when either seeks to take away freedoms
granted by, first; Nature, and second; our Constitution it becomes
the farthest thing from benign, it is a crime against humanity and
humanities children.
To censor those who granted them the right to be in such a position
to write such legislation would be outright indignations against
Nature, God and the people they serve.
In each act of creation
there is a search for benefits, power or empowerment. Yet, one,
more so, is to empower an individual and the people who find his or
her message worthy. The other, is to empower the same, yet, it
squelches "an entire people", their offspring, and their collective
inalienable rights manifestly denying use of what Nature and Gods Law
intended to allow...That is; to use the vocal cord granted to them, by no man.
Regulation does not belong in this
natural realm because the feelings felt in creation, these
beneficial liquors, are dispensed by God or Nature itself.
Music has been bestowed upon man
since his/her first "moving" musical encounter. It may have been
something as simple as a rock that tumbled down a gravely hillside
and created a simple beat which was enhanced by echoes bouncing off
nearby granite slopes. Where a slightly bored human was so moved by
the sounds heard, he/she gather up two stones in hands and made a
conscious decision to tap them together, in an attempt to recreate
that certain something heard. Importantly, it was found to be
pleasant, he/she may have hummed or laughed as the noises reached
human ears. Was music made? Those present made that determination -
unhindered by government.
Past escapades
and experiments of man leads us to these times, these sounds.
Several hundred years from now few sounds from this time may survive
the scrutiny of time and tastes. Will anything created today tell
the tale of this time, and what tale will it tell? Will it have
forecasted the downfall of certain civilizations...or, will it be as
interesting as someone knocking two stones together? Or will a song
have such power to change someone's thinking
to lead them and
others to a better future. Mans freedom to experiment will
determine what is found pleasant and important from here on
out.
With that said, I'll leave you with
a couple of thoughts:
Have no doubt, Tribes do exist and
will continue to exist among us -often music is, and will be, the
catalyst to their bond.
and
A kiss leads to more, and so shall
music be rearranged, as the present becomes mundane.
